Bern, CH / The project consists in the extension of the Kunstmuseum in Bern, Switzerland. The new building is in relation to the historic Stettler building in terms of symmetry, tectonics and materiality. The transparent ground floor is anchored by four large wall panels of different sizes, which ground the building. On the side facing Hodlerstrasse, one corner serves as an inviting entrance area, while the other is a museum bistro, both with a covered public space. On the Aare side, a public outdoor terrace and the cloakroom offer an attractiveview towards the river. The façade precisely integrates the existing Cuno Amiet sgraffito on the street side. Inside, a sculptural, naturally lit staircase offers museum visitors a remarkable experience as they explore the exhibition spaces in the extension. The exhibition rooms are located one floor above and two floors below the open ground floor. The three floors of exhibition rooms present different expressions according to the type of art exhibited.
