POINT OF STILLNESS
Morano Calabro, IT / The project is located inside the ruins of the Monastery of Colloreto, situated in the northern part of the Isthmic Way, 7km away from Morano Calabro, Calabria. The site is characterized by the intersection of a highway situated underneath the hill and by the hiking paths to the Pollino mountain. The site is therefore crossed by a horizontal high speed mobility and by a vertical slow mobility. With the presence of this situation in the site, the projects aims to acts as a Point of Stillness and pause in this intersection of movements. The volume on the north is a guest house for visitors and can be used as an accommodation for the night. The three other volumes are situated in the main exhibition area inside the ruins of the monastery. A path made by metal grates connects the exhibition areas from the parts of garden left with spontaneous vegetation. The structure of the interventions has a skeleton of concrete, the exterior material of the facade is made by polycarbonate sheets, acting as a skin surrounding all the facades, allowing light to be visible at nighttime.
